This sofa concept was developed for the 2024 Maison Convertible competition. The multidisciplinary design agency RCE Designers brought me on board to collaborate on the technical engineering of the sofa. Following this, I took full charge of the 3D modeling and rendering process.
Among the elements that shape our homes, the sofa remains an essential piece of furniture in the central living space, the living room. Although its primary function is synonymous with comfort and relaxation, our interaction with it has constantly evolved over time. Our main goal was to re-examine the object itself, without straying from the classic yet iconic identity of this flagship piece that has been present in our homes for centuries.
The straps, also present on the backrest, reveal the full capabilities of this sofa bed. Every single component that makes up Apertura plays a precise role in converting the sofa into a bed.
The backrest then extends the sleeping surface, while the armrests seamlessly become bolsters. Bridging day and night, this system ensures seamless dual functionality for both uses.
